Schools and education

We want to give every child a good start in life. Therefore, we have created a calm and stimulating learning environment where the students get acknowledgement and encouragement. It is of great importance that the students achieve the national learning targets.

Preschools

In Skurup, there are both municipal and independent preschools. You can freely choose which preschool you want your child to attend. We do everything we can to ensure that you get the preschool that you have applied for.

We offer preschool for all children aged 1–5 years to the extent required by parents' employment, studies or the child's own needs according to the Education Act. For children whose parents are on parental leave, preschool is offered for 15 hours per week during school terms.

Public preschool for children aged 3–5 years

For all three-, four- and five-year-olds, there is public preschool. This means that all children are offered 525 hours per year free of charge in preschool from the autumn term of the year they turn three. Public preschool is voluntary.

Schools

The aim of the education is that the students acquire good knowledge, skills and self-confidence, making them willing and able to participate in and develop a democratic society.

From the age of six, your child is welcome to attend one of our elementary schools. As a parent, you have the opportunity to choose which school you want your child to attend.

There are seven municipal elementary and junior high schools in the Municipality of Skurup. There is also a senior high school, Nils Holgerssongymnasiet.

You and your child are always welcome to pay a visit!

Important targets

In the Municipality of Skurup, there is a common quality assessment system, aimed at measuring the quality of the schools and preschools. It is the responsibility of the principal to plan, follow up and develop the educational activities on a systematic and continuous basis.

The quality work aims to fulfill national as well as municipal targets, and meet national requirements and guidelines, always striving to make improvements.

Adult education

The Municipality of Skurup offers adult education to its registered citizens. The aim of the adult education is to give all adults the opportunity to raise their competence and improve their self-esteem. The education will prepare you for work as well as higher studies, thereby enabling you to better take part in society. The Adult education is located on the premises of Nils Holgerssongymnasiet.

You can study at the following levels:

• Basic level (Elementary/junior high school)
• Senior high school level (distance learning)
• Special education for adults with mental disabilities at different levels
• Swedish for immigrants (SFI)

Vocational training

The school also offers vocational training programmes:

• Professional driver training programme
• Health and social care programme
• Child and recreation programme

You get access to an individual study model, tailored to meet your educational needs. You can study at your own pace, thereby creating good opportunities to combine your studies with life as an adult. We also offer you study and career counselling as well as coaching.
